He may just have thought that adding some soda water to the syrup he had invented would quench Atlanta' s thirst at the beginning of that hot and humid summer of 1886. His bookkeeper, who invented the catchy name and created the trademark in flowing script that was so fashionable at the time, could hardly have imagined that the name and the trademark would soon achieve unprecedent popularity.
